| Yun Shouping(1633-1690),born
Yun Ge,was a native of Wujin,
Jiangsu Province. He had a number of aliases
among which the best known is Yun Nantian.
He followed the meigu (boneless) method of
painting practised by Xu Chongsi of
Northern Song, paid great attention to sketching and
painting from nature, and had a preference for light,
smooth and bright colours. He began by doing landscapes
but later turned to flower painting. Later generations
regard him as one of the six foremost painters of the
Qing Dynasty (the other five were Wang Shimin,
Wang Jian, Wang Hui, Wang Yuanqi and Wu
Li). |
